Jake Hughes' 2020 gets underway in Austria

01-07-20

This weekend sees Jake Hughes return to competitive action as he rejoins his HWA RACELAB squad for the first round of the 2020 FIA Formula Three Championship at the Red Bull Ring, Austria.

Following a highly successful first season with HWA RACELAB in the FIA F3, in which Jake recorded one race win and a further three podium finishes on his way to 7th in the Championship Standings, Jake and the grid return to action this weekend in Austria.

The picturesque Red Bull Ring is the shortest circuit on the FIA Formula 3 calendar but provides exciting racing on every trip. The first half of the lap plays host to the majority of the wheel-to-wheel action, with three long straights and heavy braking zones a recipe for entertainment. Meanwhile, in the second half of the lap, the drivers must maintain their concentration as the circuit tightens up through a series of quick corners with little margin for error.

With good memories from the circuit in recent times, the Red Bull Ring played host to Jake and the team's first-ever win in the FIA Formula 3 Championship last year and the British racing driver will be looking to continue the form that saw him hit the top step of the podium last year and also in 2018 in GP3.

After the delayed start to the season, it feels fantastic to finally be able to say that it's race week again! To kick the season off in Austria is a real confidence boost for myself and the team as this is where we picked up our first-ever win in the championship last year. I've always recorded good results on my trips to the Red Bull Ring so the aim for this weekend is to hit the ground running and get the season off to a strong start.
