Joining the team for the entirety of the 2022 season, Jake will help spearhead VAR’s inaugural season in the single-seater championship.
Following an excellent FIA F3 campaign in 2020, where Jake accrued two wins and four podium finishes, the Birmingham-based driver competed in select rounds of FIA F2 in 2021 - claiming a career-best result of fourth place at Sochi with HWA RACELAB, mastering abysmal weather conditions to lead the team with a superb qualifying performance.
After a productive testing programme following the conclusion of the 2021 championship, Jake and Van Amersfoort Racing are excited to begin the team’s FIA F2 journey - which starts in Bahrain on the weekend of March 19-20th.
Returning to a two-race format for 2022, the championship will return to several tracks for the first time in two years with events in Barcelona, Spielberg and Spa-Francorchamps all returning to the calendar.
The series will also return to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit whilst visiting Imola and the team’s home race at Zandvoort for the very first time.
One of single-seater motorsports most storied teams, Van Amersfoort Racing has tasted a plethora of success in its almost-50 year history. Continuous front runners in several championships, the team have claimed title glory in German Formula Three and Formula Renault 2.0 and most recently in Italian F4 and ADAC Formula 4. A proven front-runner in all they have competed in, Van Amersfoort Racing have also enjoyed successful programmes in the former FIA Formula 3 European Championship and current campaigns in Euroformula Open and Formula Regional European Championship.
Boasting an enviable alumni, the team have propelled the careers of several Formula One drivers including 2021 World Champion Max Verstappen, alongside Charles Leclerc and Kevin Magnussen.
After achieving incredible success over the years, Jake is proud to be joining the team in 2022 as they embark on a new chapter.
“I’m really excited to be racing with Van Amersfoort Racing in 2022 for a full campaign in FIA Formula 2,” Jake said. “It’s a very promising project to be a part of - the team and myself share a similar vision and a similar drive for success and I’m certain we’ll work very hard to achieve our goals. Van Amersfoort Racing are one of the most successful teams in single-seaters and have succeeded in all they have done to date. It’s an exciting prospect to work with such fantastic people and I’m very much looking forward to the challenge. I’d just like to say a huge thank you to the team for the opportunity to work with them.”
CEO of Van Amersfoort Racing, Rob Niessink, is delighted to welcome Jake to the team ahead of their maiden FIA Formula Two campaign.
“It is exciting to be able to make this first FIA F2 driver announcement! We are extremely happy with Jake joining us for the FIA F2 Championship. We are standing on the brink of a great adventure for which we very much welcome the experience and maturity that Jake brings along. During the post-season test at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, Jake showed to be a highly motivated and professional team player. Jake’s accurate input and feedback already made an impact during testing, which helped the team to progress already in a very short time. His drive and dedication match ours, giving us great confidence for the season ahead!”
